THANKSGIVING WEEKEND BEGINS

I know you've all been on the edge of your seats, wondering what I've been up to since Friday at noon. It's exciting stuff. Brace yourself.

The short version: Shopping, sitting, sleeping, waking, bathing child, groceries, more shopping, laundry, dishes, putting laundry away, making cranberry sauce, making cupcakes, more dishes, Weeb baby videos, hair dying, blog entry. And that's just Friday evening and Saturday to around 3PM!

And now the long version. Because I know how much my many readers love to read about me in great detail!

Friday we went and got a Halloween costume for Weeb. Princess Peach. If you don't know who that is, then you must be into living your life outside and playing outside, or something. Hats off to Toys R Us for having it in her size and being cheaper than buying anywhere online.

Then shopping for some rain boots. My child has been coming home with the world's most foul smelling feet due to her playing in the wet grass in her running shoes. The moist season has hit, so time for some new Wellies. We found some snow boots, but no rain boots.

We then got suckered, by a pair of batting blue eyes, into letting Weeb enjoy some Halloween themed kids carnival rides at the mall. She rode a Halloween train, a carousel and some Swings of Doom, which she wasn't keen on going on and once she did, she didn't want to stop.

We spent the rest of the night watching "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown" and making certain that our couch didn't float away. They'll do that, you know. Luckily we won out and it stayed right in place. I've no idea what it did after we went to bed. You never can tell with couches. However, it was in the right place this morning, so that's a bonus.

Up early Saturday morning. I thought I might get a few minutes alone with the husband before the offspring awoke. Yeah, I can hear you parents laughing. Weeb sensed there was attention being given to someone other than her and protested loudly by having far more energy than any person should have that early on a Saturday morning.

We did our usual Saturday morning grocery run. I was surprised how busy it was for how early in the morning it was, but it is a long weekend (Thanksgiving in Canada) so I guess people are getting prepared.

Then we went on a second hunt to try and find rain boots for Weeb. Success! When we got home, I was putting the old winter boots in a pile for donation when I notice that they appear to be EXACTLY the same size as the ones we bought yesterday. How can a size 12 look EXACTLY the same as a size 13? Wonko thinks maybe they are different on the inside and the soles just look similar. Weeb insists the new ones fit. I should have made her try the ones from last year on first, especially since she wore them all of five times last year because all of the warnings of a brutal winter spawned about five minutes of snow.

Our Saturday of fun continued with my doing some laundry and some dishes. And Wonko helps with laundry folding, so how lucky am I?

Now, there are few things that I can actually do in the kitchen (aside from dishes) and not completely screw up. I am the master of making cranberry sauce. Yes. I am. I rock it. And Richmond, BC is well known for it's cranberries. According to Wikipedia, Richmond had approximately 47% of BC's cranberry acreage. Have bog land, will farm cranberries! So yeah, I made some cranberry sauce. It's in the fridge, setting, to be enjoyed in a Thanksgivingy way for the better part of the rest of the weekend.

Last weekend I was advised that we would also be contributing cupcakes for Thanksgiving dinner. Weeb has a nut allergy, so we often make cupcakes for family events, since we can't buy anything from bakeries. We've got an awesome cream cheese frosting to use (though I doubt the amount of anything close to cream cheese in it) and some little pumpkin sprinkles to add. Wonko actually made them, with a little Weeby assistance. If I was Super Mom I'd make the cake and frosting from scratch (Weeb asked what 'scratch' is - made me laugh), but I'm not Super Mom. I'm Buy Cake Mix and Tub O' Frosting Mom. And I'm okay with that.

We spent some time watching videos from when Weeb was around 2. That was good for a laugh. What a cute kid, then and now!

Later I think we'll dye my hair. Why? Because it's super short and why not? I think a nice dark cranberry color would be fun. My mom will hate the cut, my dad will hate the color and I'll feel like a teenager again!

Hm. This isn't nearly as interesting as I thought it would be. But that's never stopped me from posting. What? You wanted a picture? Fine.

  1. Actually, that was very interesting. I didn't know it was Thanksgiving in Canada. I did know about the cranberries! A friend of mine from the Vancouver gave some ideas for local fare before the Olympics. We hosted an opening ceremonies party with canadian food and drink. Amongst other things, we served craisins for the kids, and cocktails of cranberry juice, canada dry ginger ale, and crown royal. Yum. ;)

  2. I meant to post about the maniacal joy I had in singing I PUT A SPELL ON YOU, while I was making cranberry sauce. I was using a rather cauldron-like pot and it just felt right. I had been watching the movie, Hocus Pocus, with Weeb a few days earlier and Better Middler was still fresh in my mind.
