TIME FOR TEA

I have some friends who are improving their photography and Photoshopping skills. It is inspiring me to learn more. Though we have a nicer camera, I always carry my Cannon PowerShot SD1000 with me. This picture is all about my mom. It's her teacup, on her coaster, on her kitchen table.

  1. How fun! Do you want to know what "they" would say about it to make it more interesting???

They would mention the rule of thirds and tell you to take the photo off center or crop it off center so that it is more visually intereting.

You can google the rule of thirds, but it essentially divides your photograph into 9 equal squares. Your goal is to have your focal point in one of the grid intersections.

Just something to try for next time to see if you like it. :)

  2. Pete uses the rule of thirds quite often, but it always looks so cheesy when I do it. Part of the problem, in this shot, was that I was trying the digital macro to see if I could get detail in the doily coaster, but ended up really liking the contrast between the wood and the glass. Point is because I was fiddling with the marcro, I didn't give myself enough room to crop. And I have a terrible habit of cropping everything to 4"x6" (72ppi for online use). I'll have to work on the rule of thirds a bit more though. In terms of close up and contrast for a little camera, it turned out better than I was expecting. I may have to zoom in on the doily... Lovin' the tips - keep 'em coming! Thanks Carla S! :)

  3. Cool stuff. I have actually never tried to apply different effects, etc. Must give it a whirl. You've inspired me.
