52 of 2013 - Week 27

52 of 2013 - Week 27. Picaboo's theme for the week is 'Photographing Color: Red, White and Blue'. My Focus 52 - Pixel Project theme is 'National Pride'.  The first shot is of a Maple Leaf pin - you can get these in any tourist area in Canada.  My husband got this particular one when he was sworn in as a Canadian Citizen, last autumn. Next are some shots of my Weeb.  The bottom two shots were taken at a Canada Day festival, from the top of a Ferris Wheel, with my iPhone.  I couldn't see what I was photographing as the sun glare was blinding.  They turned out pretty well.  And it occurred to me a tad too late that, oh yeah, I don't like Ferris Wheels.  We wore Canada Day shirts and ponytails with maple leafs on them to celebrate the day.  We had some blue cotton candy as a tribute to the blue part of the red, white and blue to honor our southern neighbors in the USA.  Today though, it's all red and white for us!  O Canada, we party at an outdoor fair on the hottest day of the year for thee!

Taken with my Canon PowerShot G12 (the fancy point and shoot), edited with Photoshop and PicMonkey.

STEVESTON, BC

There is a fishing village near Vancouver, called Steveston. You can buy fresh fish on the dock at certain times of the year. There are a few fabulous fish & chip shops. It's quite a cute little village.

There are some enormous boats that come up the Fraser River to drop off what must be hundreds of cars. They get dropped off down the river and go by train and truck throughout BC, and likely beyond. These boats are HUGE. I've seen smaller apartment buildings.

This is a shot of the Fisherman's Memorial. The Steveston Fisherman's Memorial is a freestanding memorial commemorating the lives and deaths of fishermen working out of Steveston, BC. It takes the form of a giant fishing net needle and stands a few meters from the sea, at Garry Point Park (from Wikipedia).

Here's a couple of shots of the memorial from father away. You turn your head for one second and another boat will show up in view. I love Steveston!

NOVEMBER SNOW LINE IN VANCOUVER

This is the view from where I work.

Well, it's the view once I've parked my car and walked towards the office door.

Plus it was from a couple of days ago when it we weren't enjoying a November rainy day complete with crazy wind.

But it's the view from where I work.

Well, probably not anymore. The snow line was pretty low when I took the picture but as they're talking about opening Whistler and some of the other ski hills this weekend, I'm guessing there is even more snow in 'them thar hills' now.

The snow can stay on the mountains, where it belongs.

Shame there wasn't any there for the 2010 Winter Olympics. *snicker*

O CANADA (AS SUNG BY A WEEB)

Weeb loves to sing.
This is our National Anthem.
(This is how Weeb sings it.)

O Canada!
(O Canada!)
Our home and native land!
(Our home and native land!)
True patriot love in all thy sons command.
(True paradise in all our sons command.)
With glowing hearts we see thee rise,
(With glowing hearts we see the rice,)
The True North strong and free!
(From True North strong and free!)
From far and wide,
(From garden lights,)
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
(O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.)
God keep our land glorious and free!
(Guard/Gord keep our land glorious and free!)
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
(O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.)
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
(*takes a bow*)
